Match of the Round

Warners Bay 7 (Jenna Kingsley 4, Cass Davis 2, Sophie Stapleford 1) defeated Wallsend 1 (Libby Copus-Brown) at John Street Oval on Sunday.

Half-time: Warners Bay led 3-0.

Player-coach Cassidy Davis credited “being clinical in front of goal” for putting Wallsend to the sword and moving five points clear at the top of the ladder.

The hosts drew first blood when Jenna Kingsley scored twice to give the Bay an early lead.

This time, Kingsley turned provider, putting through a pass to Davis who slotted it into the bottom right corner.

Warners Bay struck early in the second half through Sophie Stapleford but a Libby Copus-Brown free kick put Wallsend back in the game.

The hosts sealed the deal with Kingsley finishing her four-goal haul and Davis grabbing her second in the dying stages of the game.

Davis thought her sides solid defence played a big part in their seven-goal blitz.

“We are glad to get the three points and I’m proud of the girl’s effort,” Davis said.

“Wallsend battled and fought hard which we spoke about at half-time and definitely improved in the second half.

“Credit to all of the girls today as we worked hard as a team to secure important points.”

Wallsend coach Marc Hingston said it was “a good game” and “we competed all day”.
